Don't know if this attempt to post photos will work - but here goes . 1st photo shows the forward /reverse shifter supplied by raceway services USA . Took a whole lot of modifications to get it on as these are made for rigs with the sidecar on the drivers right side - not left like ours are . Second photo is a front view of the shifter links taken from the engines' front . If you are familiar with raceway services home page there are a series of photos that show how these shifter kits are meant to placed on in the US configured rigs .This photos illustrates some of the modifications needed . Third photo shows the bike from the side . You can see the reverse lever below and to the rear of the forward shifter . If these photos come out as intended , I'll post more . Vic

Can you explain what you had to do to fit the hand shift , I see on the raceway site that they have the linkage mounted down on the bottom frame rail and yours is mounted on the front downtube , what else did you have to do , I really like the look of the shifter and I am going to get one myself , so any tips on putting it on will be greatly appreciated , thanks , Lowie .

Hi Lowie, I'll try and explain this in the easiest way possible . When you receive the shifter kit you will have a disc that can be loaded into your computer to show you the step by step procedure to attach the shifter . However like I said on the original post -this kit is designed for US delivered Urals - side car on the other side , so the disc is almost useless 1. First of all I swapped the longer top rod with the shorter bottom rod to allow the pivot bracket to be mounted further forward on the frame . 2. To align the whole set up so it works smoothly I repositioned the ball joint ends,of the rods,on different sides . 3. The lower shift rod was bent to conform to the engine crank case 4. A new lower linkage bracket was made with a new support arm and a longer pivot bolt . 5. Drilled another hole in the foot gear shifter to allow for correct alignment - and to allow foot shifter to still be used . 6. You may want to re-route the clutch cable to under the throttle cables so it dose not get tangled in the reverse lever . 7. Also a good idea to re-route the spark plug leads away from the linkages . With the shifter attached Ive noticed that the gears change a lot easier as the time between squeezing the clutch , taking your hand off the throttle to change gears and hitting the shifter is exactly the right synchronisation that the gearbox needs to sort itself out in anticipation of a up or down shift. .
I'll take more photos of the conversion and post them here over the next couple of days

Thanks a lot for that info , the kit is in Sydney and has been since the 24th of last month so I'm hoping it will get delivered to me this week . I never gave a thought to the side car mounts being in the way when I ordered it because when you read about it , it states that it is all bolt on but like the old saying I suppose , "life wasn't meant to be easy " and unfortunately in my case there seems to be a lot of truth in that statement . But where there is will there is a way if things were easy everyone would do it and I like a challenge so its all good . thanks again , Lowie .

First photo shows where extra hole was drilled by the foot shifter for correct alignment
Second photo shows the forward mounting bracket with "D" clamp behind it (cant see in the photo) to secure it. The welded extension bracket needed to have a half round cut out of it to clear the sidecar mounting bar
Third photo shows the welded extension bracket from the rear

First photo is looking straight down onto the left cylinder , below it you can see the angle that the rod was bent to conform to the engine crank case If you have shin guards a small cutting will need to be made so that when the reverse shifter is taken out of gear the pivot arm is not stopped in its forward movement Third photo shows pivot arm in its forward position when reverse gear is dis-engaged . The need for a slight cut out is evident Cheers Vic

Finally got the kit , you were dead right not easy to fit , I mounted mine differently than yours as I tried to do away with some linkages , so I went from the left side of the tank where the shifter comes through and went straight to the gearbox . It is working ok but I need to play with the lengths a little yet to shorten the throw , when I get it right I will post some photos of it , there is not going to be a lot left of the kit by then , maybe I should have made the whole thing .

I'd be interested to see how you mounted the shift kit . As long as it works - its all good .I was going to email Raceway with my photos to show them how to mount this for right hand drive rigs . Might still do it .
Once I had mine mounted I also had to make small adjustments to get everything happening in sync . Cheers Vic

Sorry that I have taken so long but basically what I did was go straight from the gear lever to the bottom of the hand shift linkage , this needed an s -bend in the linkage arm and an extension of the link to the shifter to shorten the throw . It has reversed the pattern of the shift , which makes it back to me for first and then 3 away for the higher gears and then back to you for downshifts . The pics may not be to clear but you will get the idea , thanks for all your info on your changes , Lowie .
