Appreciate all the feed back, from what I am hearing the Sachs shocks are great on road but not off road where I intend using the Ural, as a replacement for my off road two wheel option I currently have. As the delivery for my Red Sparrow Accent package arrives currently in May. Orders go into the factory this week for the February batch. So if I order in March they will be ready to fit.

If you ride as I do, which is a very sedate 80-90 kph loaded, 2up on our VIC bituminised goat tracks, the original shocks still leave a lot to be desired. Particularly if both bodies on board are decrepit. On deliveries for 2023 Ural I can only say that the past 2 batches were at an unfortunate time. With the Russian/Ukraine conflict starting and relocation to Khazakstan, extended deliveries to approx 9 months. How much that has changed remains to be seen. I dont know what Nitron lead time is. But, I do know HCS is 4-7 weeks as mentioned previously. In my view, that is flexible as well.

Haitch, many thanks for the HCS info, what are the contact details for the HCS shocks? His name is Horst Ullrich. Email: hu-sidecars@t-online.de Web: hu-sidecars.de There are two models. Only the CP106 has the piggy back cylinder. Having said that, I understand the other shock is very good as well. Just more road oriented. Hope that helps

The French shocks are 2WIN, and Greg from Rocky Creek Designs has them on his 2022 GU. He says they're brilliant and a far cry from the Sachs. The Sachs in my opinion would be great if the bike was loaded with three burly Russian soldiers, but for me and the missus totalling 140kg, they're way too stiff. We'll be doing Tasmania on the Sachs shocks, so hopefully she'll agree to new shocks after a few thousand kms on the old ones. :-) shock-factory.fr/en/1084-ural-5-pack - No remote reservior, but approx $2k landed in Australia. Much the same price as the HCS by the look of it.

Welcome Phil. Yes, I thought so too. The cost falls pretty well between the Ikon (Koni) and the Nitrons. There are others, mostly French built and another distributer from the US. Whos name escapes me. I dont think our US vs AU exchange rate is very helpful at this time either. Everything I read on the HCS Type CP106 is very positive now I have the contact www.hu-sidecars.de/s/unsere-modelle/ural-shocks.php I will order them. Are the springs universal or is there options, or indeed does there need to be options? Looking forward to getting out on the dirt roads that is why I am buying a Ural, I will save my 2021RT for other riding. My fully kitted 2007 650Dakar will need to find another home :-( Off to the Karuah Rally in a couple of weeks stopping at Kentucky for some tuition with Jon on the way.

Horst knows his stuff. Springs are fine. Get the remote reservoir shocks. 👍👍

HCS CP106 Are preset by Horst. I think the Shocks/springs are the same. Just adjusted for preload/compression and rebound by Horst as a starting point. They are marked for Front/Rear and Sidecar positions. Shock springs are infinately adjustable. He provides a table for spring length and comp/rebound clicks.

German vs French…? Easy decision. 🤣🤣🤣 Mercedes vs Citroen Bmw vs Peugeot Audi vs Renault By that logic, you should buying Japanese or Korean shocks... 🤣🤣 So not such an easy decision for me. Having owned Volkswagens and BMWs for the last 30 years, the good old German reliability is not what it used to be.
These two websites are worth a read.
But then again, there are just as many websites and paid advertising sites that say the Germans are better, but none really come close to the Japanese or Koreans these days.
Of course, not having owned either HCS or 2WIN shocks I have no idea, but if anyone wants to let me try theirs out before buying them I'd love to have a go.... 🤣
