Thanks for the heads up Haitch, our manual still say 0.10 for each and I was wondering with the HC pistons and a little more heat so will defo do that. I run the shim gap minimally bigger on our Kato 950 and it runs a lot cooler although it is clickier when cold. Hmmmm So now I am confused. Is your manual a 2022 manual?? And it is saying 0.10mm (0.004") for both inlet and exhaust??
Yes that is correct, attached is a screenshot of my manual showing 2022 + GU and .10 each valve, I must remember to change my tyres at 3.175mm
EDIT, I have done inlets at 0.10 and exhausts at 0.12.

Jeezuz. Trying not to be too anal. BUT surely someone in Ural management may have thought to advise early 2022 owners that have had the remap, that exhaust tappet clearances are now back to normal. ie 0.004" for both. OR is that still not the case. Go on, someone tell me I'm over thinking it!!

Technically, the only thing that bothers me about the Eu5 engine is the higher compression and and I had that thought when I first saw the pre-release specs. A compression increase is the most simple and cheapest form of power increase but it usually comes with ramifications. I doubt Ural were looking for a power increase but rather a means to recover the losses incurred by meeting the Eu5 emission specs. Unfortunately the leaner fuel mapping and higher compression both have a byproduct…HEAT.. You need bucket loads of heat to start melting engine bits but heat does other things, like changing the way fuel burns. The ignited fuel in an engine is a controlled burn until you heat that fuel too much prior to igniting it. Heat it too much and it will ignite before the spark gets to it. For the non technical people, that pinging noise you hear is the pressure wave created by the uncontrolled burning of the fuel. The result is similar to hitting the piston with a hammer.

Yes don't wonna poop the engine so we were taking it quieter without 98, now it has a full belly of 98 and is running well, so my only question is should I set my exhaust clearance to 0.10 from 0.12 or leave it as is?
On a side note when I had air cooled Ducati's we could buy a doofer which senses engine temp, this was for richer fueling when cold, possible for these girls for sensors to tell lies to the ECU to fuel it up minimally?
Just thinkin out loud as I treasure our engines good health.

There's lots of 'doohickies' that intercept the signal from either the O2 or temp sensor on other bikes and have an adjuster to change the signal the ECU sees to richen the mixture - someone should make one for the new bikes (if practical).
Alternately, EJK in the USA might develop an electronic one as they did for the 1st gen Ural FI - strictly for 'closed course' use! Or, ural could offer a true 'offroad map', as they once did with the 1st gen EFI bikes. The fact that these new bikes are pinging is just not acceptable frankly.

Evening gents, so post perfect tappits, plug gapping to perfection, oil changes at Eurobrit etc and fresh 98 we still have pinging.
Even slight throttle in 3rd up a hill and we have to change down to 2nd to stop it knocking which is a little concerning.
She runs strong but to be fair there are places where slight throttle won't cut it so this worries me.
We are getting 245km till fuel light, we stopped at 282km at canmp and still had 2.5l left so around 300km per tank, for those in the know is this normal or unnormal?
We are fairly heavy with all our gear but still 12 kg under recommended max weight, this is wet weight including water, fuel, tent, camping shit and the aliens on top do technically we are not overloaded.
If 98 doesn't cut it are we in trouble before it happens?
Cheers Andi

My 2014 first gen EFI gets around 200km before fuel light starts flickering around town lightly loaded so I’d say you are getting very good economy.
Have you tried some octane booster in the fuel out of interest?

Have you tried some octane booster in the fuel out of interest? No octane Booster yet, we are only cruising to see Oz so 60 to 70 KMPH, 80 on the main drag
