As some are aware, the 2022 models do start to ping a bit when under load and when hot. I've had the updated map installed, but there is still a bit of pinging going on under load. I've also had the MIL come on once on a long slow climb out of Gloucester, which went out once it cooled down.
Having a bit of a think, and chatting to a couple of people about running hot etc, I decided to try a little experiment.
The spark plug specified is an NGK BPR7HS-10. Projected electrode, and a mid range heat number. So, I thought about going one step colder to an 8, and my learned friend at the motorcycle shop also suggested going to a standard electrode. So I've installed a BR8HS. What's the worst that could happen? Might foul a plug at slow running.
As it happens, the warm up cycle is a bit longer, and there is still some slight farting, but it does start and run as usual. What is noticeable is that the stumble after down hill over-run is no longer there, nor is the slight stumble off idle when setting off from lights etc. The other thing that I've not been able to do is to make it ping yet, but it's also not become really hot either.
Mind you, this is only an hour in Sydney traffic, and a short burst up Mona Vale road, but seat of the pants feeling is that it's better than it was. Sure, after the re-map on purchase, it was a lot better, but this has improved it just that little bit more. I'll check the plugs for any sign of fouling on the weekend and update.
Interested in your opinions.

Thanks Mike. Very interested in your followup. I think "bewildered" also went up that route. I believe he also may have fitted a "GPR" exhaust to get the hot gasses out quicker. Hopefully he may see this and chime in. I note in the SS forum that someone in Sydney (new to Urals) has a 2022 running hot. Why? Cos the dealer said so as the exhaust was blue and their computor said so. Anyway, the dealer has it so interested in that one too. To top it off, a holed piston North of Cloncurry last September. Replaced under warranty. Townsville.

I don't think I would be going to either of them...just from personal experience. I know others have had good experiences, but I haven't. Uralla would be my choice, as Mat and Clare have been nothing but helpful and on time with all my questions and service parts. Mine has blue pipes as well, and I've had a look inside the cylinders with a camera and there's no evidence of holes forming. It's now got 9,000km on the clock since new and has run exclusively on 98. I also just found that post in Soviet Steeds, however there doesn't seem to be a response since July? So I send a PM to the original post author. Just did a run from Belrose to Castle Hill on the M2 at 100 sustained for about 20 minutes and it feels good. So I'd say I'll be sticking with the new plugs for a bit longer and keeping an eye on it.

Thanks for the in depth reply. Good to compare notes. On the one about overheating. Page 3 is as late as November 27 I think. If there is anyone overseas I would take some notice of it would be Jon Heindl and Andrew Duthie. I think I will give the cooler plugs a go. If we ever get a summer.

UPDATE: The BR8HS plugs worked well for about 5 days. On Monday, it would start, then stop again when cold, but would restart and run fine. Once warmed up it would run like a charm, but would idle so low at lights, when the temp got higher it would stop. The plugs were slightly black around the edge of the thread, but electrodes were clean, although it did feel like fouling would on a rich mixtures. So, back to the drawing board.
Changed back to standard plugs today, and all is normal again.
No one local had any BPR8HS, (protruding electrode) so waiting on some to arrive prior to another test.

Further update. The BPR8HS works well, starts fine and idles when really hot. Pinging is much less evident where it was happening before. So I’ll leave these in for a while longer, but we may be on the money. Have done about 50kms so far, and all seems in order.
Happy New Year!

FWIW - I found that if you set the plug gap to that recommended the bike runs better. The plug gap is too closed on a brand new BPR6/7/8HS. Gap should be 1mm or 0.04 inch.

Update: Not sure if it's the BPR8HS plugs (Set to 1mm) or something else, but on the way to work yesterday the bike would stall at lights. So, back to the drawing board and re-installed the BPR7HS. As it's the only change I've made to the whole system.
Tonight, I will check the idle balance and the cable balance with a carb balancer and see if there is any anomaly.
