So, I think this is going nowhere. We can jabber on here all day. Nobody here is in a position to influence Ural Australia or IMWA. I don't think either, read anything in this forum. Unless the owner is prepared to take action though the ACCC and exercise their rights re the "lemon laws" it is unlikely to be resolved. Much of what is written here is not seen, or understood by those in a position to influence the remedial action required to fix this. So, yes. It needs someone to get off their bum and do something. Service agent, dealer, distributor/importer, or IMWA? ? OR OWNER.

The dealer has had the bike for about 2 months now, I don’t blame him or Matt, it has been data logged with different riding scenarios, HQ USA come back to try this and that all to no avail. Spoke to Matt today 2 new throttle bodies are in the post, so we will see what happens there. As I said Matt appears to have his hands tied in terms of the next move, it is the USA that directs the traffic. This must be getting close to the last roll of the dice so let’s hope it gets sorted.

With regards to the pinging, why don't they just make an offroad map that richens the fuel mixtures like they used to rather than retarding the timing and downgrading the performace of the last two years of production bikes??
I'd be interested in reading the transcript you have of that conversation Haitch. I can PM you with my email address if you like.
Sorry to hear of these issues bozo1956, you have been more than patient, I'd be telling them to send your bike back to Uralla, and get you a new one or get them to send a complete new engine and gearbox - and then let them resolve it on their time not yours.
My plan of buying a new Ural get's further and further away because of these quality and performance issues. How do they expect to continue to grow the brand with this stuff going on?
Shame about Mr Heindl's health problems in the USA at the moment too, he's a godsend for Ural in the USA.

Didn’t John Heindle die recently ?
There is most likely an unlikely issue with Bozo’s bike and they are not seeing the wood for the trees. But it has gone on far too long. 😳

Going away on the weekend for at least a week. So may take some time to get back to you..Ural will no longer do an offroad map because that would compromise their Euro 5 compliance agreement. Hoping Jon Heindl comes through ok. I have relied on his advice frequently. The other source of valuable advice and the auther of the transcript is Andrew Duthie from "Nashfield Motorcycle Repair" A mine of info and very free with it. Email him, not FB Messenger. He is very open and quick to respond to all things techie and Ural.

The latest The Bike has been with the agent in Perth for about 10 weeks. The bike in that time has had new pistons fitted ( they fitted new barrels and pistons last August after the bike was trucked from Meekatharra during a 4,000km trip around the Pilbara to Perth because of severe power shortage, top speed gradually dwindled to 70kphr, not clear cut on what the problem/ cause was) because they said that the pistons fitted in August were the old model 8.5/1 compression type. Data logging under various conditions has been done and ultimately the throttle bodies were replaced. I have done about 700 k’s since picking the bike up, it is pretty obvious to me that nothing has changed I just checked the compression again it showed 165 psi on both, the same as when I tested months ago before the latest piston change. I rang to see what the story was as this didn’t make sense both versions reading the same pressure, the answer was weird, didn’t seem to know??? They have asked me to put some more km’s on it to see if it helps, it’s pretty obvious that they have no idea what is going on. I have had the bike for 16 months, it has been with the agent for 6 of those months. When is enough, enough I have had a gutsfull

Can you verify who is telling you about 8.6:1 pistons, who is asking to put more km on it? Dealer or Ural Australia?? 8.6:1 pistons and no map change does sound like crap. At least 2 map changes on the 2022 to retard ignition to stop pinging. The last one actually reduced power and torque by a small amount. Going to low comp pistons with no map change would surely result in less power again.

Was your bike the orange one at Desert Raid? I met you there.
Probably time to have a chat with the local consumer protection office, but Ural should just be shipping a complete new engine and driveline, to be fitted one would think.
I’ve read about other makes of vehicles with cam chains and cams out of timing causing similar problems, I’m not familiar how this works on a ural but assume that’s something they would have investigated?
